Living your ideal life: Trying vs. Being

Working and interacting with people that are wanting to be: aware, conscious or really the best person that they themselves can be, I often hear statements like “I’m trying to be mindful of _________ or _________.” We may be doing this to some degree and if we take a minute to stop and step back from the current situation we find ourselves in and really objectively listen to what words we are using, then you might find that this is a pattern which keeps us “stuck” repeating the same phrases, statements or thought patterns really is not serving us at all!

How can you be “trying to be a better person” while desiring to be that person? Hint…..you can’t be or doing both at the same time.

If you say your “trying” then you are keeping yourself in a loop or holding pattern because you can’t move beyond it.

If your trying to be more aware, ask others for help in creating awareness, find your triggers with certain situations and look at them, not just brushing them aside. If your “trying” to be more aware you’re not actually being more aware.

If you “trying” a diet, you are, in reality doing or using the diet. If you are trying to exercise more, you either are or aren’t exercising.

The point being that if you want to make a change in your life, just do it. If you try to make a change you will remain in the same spot until you make a change.

“Be the change you wish to see in the world” or better yet “Be the change you wish to see in yourself” which starts with making a decision and doing it. It might not be easy or pretty in the moment but if you have some clarity on what the end result or feeling is like then you’ll get there much faster than…….TRYING. So stop trying and start BEING!
